Etymology

Provizie entered Romanian from French provision, which goes back to Latin provisio, "a foreseeing, a providing for the future." That noun comes from providere, "to foresee, to provide," built from pro- ("ahead") and videre ("to see"). Romanian reshaped the French -ision ending into the native -izie pattern, the same way French décision became decizie and précision became precizie.
