Etymology

Adevărat is built from the noun adevăr, truth, plus the adjectival suffix -at, so it literally means endowed with truth. Adevăr itself descends from Latin, most likely from a form related to verus, true, joined with the prefix ad-. The same Latin root verus gave French vrai and Italian vero, while Romanian kept the ad- prefix that those languages dropped.
