Etymology
Antrenat is the past participle of the verb a antrena, which Romanian borrowed from French entraîner. The French verb originally meant to drag along or pull with oneself, and later took on the sense of coaching someone into a skill through repeated drills. Romanian kept only the sports and training sense, dropping the older literal meaning of dragging.
