Etymology

Antrenor descends from French entraîneur, itself built on entraîner, "to train." Romanian reshaped the borrowing with its own productive agent suffix -or, the same ending seen in professor and doctor. The underlying French verb traces to Old French trainer, "to drag, pull along," from Latin trahere, "to draw."
