Etymology
Așteptat is the past participle of the verb a aștepta, to wait or to expect. The verb traces back to Vulgar Latin, built from a form of exspectare, to look out for, itself formed from the prefix ex- and spectare, to look. The core sense of watching for something arriving is preserved directly in the modern Romanian meaning.
