Etymology

Vreunul builds on vreun, itself a fusion of the verb vrea (to want, from Vulgar Latin volere) and un (one, from Latin unus). The idea behind the old formation is close to "whichever one you want", which flattened over time into a plain indefinite pronoun meaning "any one" or "someone". The final -ul is the enclitic masculine definite article, added to turn the indefinite adjective vreun into a standalone pronoun, vreunul.
