Vreun formed inside Romanian by fusing vre, a bound form of the verb a vrea (to want), with un, the masculine numeral and indefinite article meaning one. The sense shifted from something like whoever might want one to a general marker of an unspecified any or some. The feminine counterpart vreo was built the same way, from vre plus o, the feminine form of one.
