Etymology
Romanian borrowed "cola" directly from the international brand term, itself shortened from "Coca-Cola". That name in turn drew on "kola", the West African tree whose caffeine-rich nuts were used to flavor early cola drinks. The word entered Romanian in the twentieth century as the beverage itself spread, with no adaptation beyond a feminine noun ending.
