Sint is a diacritic-free spelling of sînt, which was the standard Romanian spelling of sunt from the 1953 orthographic reform until 1993, and remained common in Moldova somewhat longer. It descends directly from Latin sunt, the third person plural present of esse, to be. Romanian reused this Latin plural form for both eu sunt (I am) and ei sunt (they are), a quirk inherited straight from Vulgar Latin.
