Etymology
Romanian borrowed "comporta" from French "comporter" in the nineteenth century, part of a wave of French loans that reshaped modern Romanian vocabulary. The French verb goes back to Latin "comportare," built from "com-" (together, thoroughly) and "portare" (to carry). The original sense of carrying something along shifted, through French, into the figurative sense of carrying oneself in a certain way, hence to behave.
