Etymology

Comportament entered Romanian in the 19th century as part of a wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized Romanian vocabulary. It traces to French comportement, from the verb comporter, which goes back to Latin comportare: com- (together) plus portare (to carry). The original sense of carrying or bringing together shifted, through French, into the abstract sense of how a person carries or conducts himself.
