Etymology
Controlez is the first-person singular present of a controla, a verb Romanian borrowed from French contrôler in the modern era, alongside the noun control. French contrôler itself comes from Medieval Latin contrarotulare, meaning to check a document against a duplicate roll or register. That Latin verb combines contra, against, with rotulus, a small wheel or roll of parchment.
