Etymology

Curs comes from Latin cursus, meaning a run or a course, itself the past participle stem of currere, to run. Romanian borrowed the word directly from Latin, alongside the inherited verb curge, which comes from the same Latin verb through normal sound change. The two words split into separate paths: curge stayed close to everyday speech, while curs entered through formal and learned use.
