Etymology

Romanian borrowed "tren" from French "train" in the 19th century, along with much of its modern railway vocabulary. French "train" itself comes from the verb "trainer", to drag or pull, tracing back to Latin "trahere", to pull. The word entered Romanian as part of a wave of French loanwords during the modernization of the language.
