Word family
Etymology
Dacă formed within Romanian from the preposition de ("of, from") and the conjunction că ("that, because"). Că itself descends from Latin quia, a causal conjunction meaning "because." Over time the combined form de + că fused into the single conditional conjunction dacă, meaning "if."
