Word family
Etymology
Fierbinte descends from the Latin ferventem, the accusative form of fervens, the present participle of fervere, meaning to boil or to be very hot. Romanian kept this participle as an ordinary adjective, while the related verb fervere gave the Romanian verb a fierbe, to boil. The sound shifts from Latin to Romanian turned ferv- into fier- and -entem into -inte.
