Etymology
Registru entered Romanian from French registre, which came from Medieval Latin registrum. That Latin form derives from regesta, "things recorded," the plural past participle of regerere, "to enter, to record," built from re- ("back, again") and gerere ("to carry, to bear, to conduct"). The word kept its core sense across languages: a book or list where entries are systematically kept.
