Etymology
The verb comes from the Semitic triliteral root ج-ر-ي (j-r-y), which means to run or flow. The base Form I verb جَرَى means water runs or an event happens. أَجْرَى is the Form IV (causative) شape of that root, so it literally means to make something run. From there it took on the modern sense of carrying out or conducting an action.
