Etymology
The word builds on إنسان (insān, "human being") by adding the nisba suffix ي ("-iyy", forming a relative adjective) and the feminine ending ة, which together turn an adjective into an abstract noun, much like English "-ity" turns "human" into "humanity". Arab grammarians disagree on the deeper root of insān itself: some trace it to نسي ("to forget"), others to أنس ("to be sociable, familiar"). Because this is a Semitic root rather than an Indo-European one, it has no PIE ancestor or European cognates.
