Etymology
منشود comes from the Arabic triliteral root ن-ش-د (n-sh-d). The verb نشد means to seek, search for, or earnestly desire something, and by extension to recite or intone verse. منشود is the passive participle of this verb, built on the مفعول pattern, and it literally means 'that which is being sought.' It is a native Semitic formation with no Indo-European history.
