Etymology

Baḥith comes from the Arabic triliteral root b-ḥ-th, which carries the sense of digging, searching, and investigating. The word is the active participle of the verb baḥatha, to search or research, built on the common fāʿil pattern that turns a root into an agent noun. Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Indo-European ancestry.
