Etymology
تَفَقَّد comes from the triliteral root ف-ق-د (f-q-d), whose base verb فَقَدَ means to lose or to miss something. The Form V pattern (تَفَعَّلَ) turns this into the act of seeking out and checking on what might be missing, hence to inspect or to look in on. The same Semitic root appears in Hebrew and Aramaic with the sense of attending to, mustering, or visiting.
