Etymology
جاء comes from the triliteral Semitic root ج-ي-أ (j-y-ʾ), with the sense of coming or arriving. The middle radical is the weak letter yāʾ, which surfaces as the long vowel ā in the past tense جاء. It is one of the most common verbs of motion in Arabic and appears often in the Qurʾan and in classical prose.
