Etymology
The word comes from the Arabic triliteral root ج-ز-ء (j-z-ʾ), which carries the sense of dividing or apportioning. The related verb جَزَأَ means to split something into parts. From the same root Arabic later built جُزْئِيّ for 'partial' and the diminutive جُزَيْء for 'molecule'.
