Etymology

زَرَع comes from the Semitic root ز-ر-ع (z-r-ʕ), a core agricultural root found across the Semitic language family. It denotes the act of putting seed into the ground, and by extension farming and growth in general. The same root gives Arabic its everyday words for agriculture and farms. This is a Semitic root, not an Indo-European one, so it has no PIE ancestor.
