Etymology
عَمَّن is a fusion of two ancient Arabic particles: the preposition عن (ʿan, "about, from") and the relative or interrogative pronoun من (man, "who"). When they combine, the final ن of عن assimilates into the م of من, producing a doubled consonant marked by the shadda. This kind of merger between a preposition and من is common in Arabic, seen also in عمّا (ʿan + mā) and ممن (min + man).
