Etymology
Kabid is an old Semitic word for the liver, going back to a reconstructed Proto-Semitic form *kabid-. It shows up across the Semitic family with the same basic meaning, and in Classical Arabic it also took on a figurative sense, standing for the seat of strong feeling or the central, innermost part of something, much as English uses heart.
