Etymology
Kahf comes from the Semitic root k-h-f, which carries the sense of a hollow or recess in rock. The word is native to Arabic and is not part of the Indo-European family, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root. It appears already in Classical Arabic and gained lasting prominence through the eighteenth chapter of the Quran, Surat al-Kahf.
