Etymology

مَيَّل comes from the Arabic root م-ي-ل (m-y-l), which carries the basic sense of leaning or inclining. The plain Form I verb مالَ means "to lean, to incline." مَيَّل is the Form II, causative pattern, built by doubling the middle root letter. That doubling shifts the meaning from "to lean" to "to make something lean," that is, to tilt it.
