Etymology
مُتَزَوِّج is the active participle of the Form V verb تَزَوَّجَ, 'to marry.' Both rest on the noun زَوْج, 'spouse, pair,' from the Semitic root z-w-j. Many scholars trace زَوْج to a loan from Greek ζεῦγος, 'yoke or pair,' probably through Aramaic. The Arabic root is Semitic, so it carries no Proto-Indo-European source of its own.
