Etymology
نِساء is the common plural of "woman" in Arabic, but it does not share a root with the singular مَرْأَة. It comes from a separate Semitic stem for "women," the same source as Hebrew נָשִׁים and Aramaic נְשִׁין. This split between the singular and plural roots is called suppletion, like English "person" and "people."
