Etymology
Αντίρρηση joins the prefix αντί, meaning against, with a form of the ancient verb εἴρω, to say, whose stem ρη- also gives ῥήτωρ, orator, and ῥήμα, word or verb. So the word means literally a counter-statement, a speaking against something. The doubled ρ appears because Greek doubles a following ρ after certain vowel-final prefixes.
