Etymology
Greek borrowed οντισιόν directly from French audition in the twentieth century, along with the rest of the vocabulary of film and stage casting. French audition itself comes from Latin auditio, "a hearing, a listening," built on the verb audire, "to hear." The word entered Greek as an unadapted, indeclinable loan, the way many French show-business terms did.
