Etymology
Formed from the prefix από- ("from, forth") plus the verb καλώ ("to call"), itself from ancient Greek καλέω. The compound carries the sense of "calling someone forth by a name" and hence "to designate, dub, label." The base καλέω derives from a Proto-Indo-European root meaning "to call, shout."
