ημέραdayEtymology
The verb builds on the adjective ενήμερος, which combines the prefix εν- (in) with ημέρα (day). Someone ενήμερος is literally placed in the day, meaning current or up to date. Modern Greek turned that adjective into the verb ενημερώνω, to bring someone into the day, that is, to update or inform them.
