Etymology
κουνήσου is the aorist medio-passive imperative of κουνιέμαι ('to move oneself'), the reflexive of κουνάω/κουνώ ('to move, shake, rock'). The verb κουνάω is attested from medieval Greek and is generally connected with the noun κουνί/κούνια ('cradle, swing'), reflecting the idea of rocking to and fro. Its ultimate origin is uncertain.
