Etymology
Modern Greek «πιο» is a reduced form of older «πλιο», itself from Ancient/Koine Greek «πλέον», the neuter comparative of «πολύς» (much, many). Over time the consonant cluster simplified (πλ- > π-) to give the colloquial particle now used to build analytic comparatives. It thus belongs to the same family as «πολύς» and «πλέον».
