Etymology
Îți is the short, unstressed dative form of the second-person singular pronoun tu, meaning 'to you' or 'for you' in everyday speech. It comes from the Latin dative tibi, the same root that gave the full stressed form ție. The initial î- is a euphonic vowel Romanian inserts before certain clitic pronouns at the start of a clause, a pattern also seen in îmi ('to me') and îi ('to him/her'). Romanian kept this rich system of short object pronouns from Latin, unlike most other Romance languages, which simplified theirs further.
