Etymology
Romanian borrowed "interesant" from French "intéressant", the present participle of "intéresser" (to interest). That French verb goes back to Latin "interesse", meaning to be of importance or to concern someone, built from "inter-" (between) and "esse" (to be). The word entered Romanian in the 19th century, when the language absorbed large numbers of French terms during its modernization.
