Etymology
Devreme is a compound of the preposition de, from Latin de ("from, of"), and vreme, meaning "time" or "weather." Vreme itself is not Latin. Romanian borrowed it from Old Slavic vrěmę ("time"), a word still visible in Russian vremya and Bulgarian vreme. Put together, de vreme literally meant something like "ahead of the time," and it fused into the single adverb devreme, "early."
