Etymology

Interveni comes from French intervenir, which traces to Latin intervenire, a compound of inter (between) and venire (to come). The literal sense, to come between, narrowed over time into the modern meanings of stepping in to affect an outcome or, impersonally, of a new fact suddenly arising. Romanian borrowed the word as part of its 19th-century wave of French-based vocabulary.
