Etymology
The verb comes from the Semitic root ح-س-س (ḥ-s-s), which carries the core idea of physical sensation and feeling. Classical Arabic built the base verb حَسَّ on this root, and the Form IV pattern أَفْعَلَ added a causative sense, giving أَحَسَّ, literally something like 'to bring oneself to feel.' Over time this Form IV became the standard everyday verb for feeling or sensing in both written and spoken Arabic. The root also produced حاسة (a bodily sense) and إحساس (feeling, sensation).
