Etymology
دَقِيق comes from the Semitic root د-ق-ق (d-q-q), which carries the sense of being fine, thin, or pounded small. The verb دقّ means to pound or crush into small pieces, and the adjective pattern فعيل turns that into a quality: something fine, exact, or minutely detailed. The same root gives the noun for flour, since flour is grain pounded fine, and the word for a minute of time, a small slice of the hour.
