عَرَّض is the Form II (causative-intensive) verb built on the triliteral Semitic root ع-ر-ض, which centers on width and breadth. The base sense is to make something wide, but Form II extends it in two directions: putting something in harm's way, and speaking around a point rather than straight at it. Arabic is a Semitic language, not Indo-European, so it has no PIE root.
