عَسْكَرِيّ is a relative adjective built on عَسْكَر, 'army' or 'troops,' with the nisba suffix -iyy. The base عَسْكَر entered Arabic from Persian lashkar, 'army,' in the early Islamic centuries. From Arabic the word later spread onward, and Ottoman Turkish took عسكر as asker, 'soldier.' So the adjective means 'of the army, military,' and as a noun it names a soldier.
