غَيْرَة is the masdar, or verbal noun, of the hollow verb غَارَ / يَغَارُ, built on the Semitic root غ-ي-ر. The same root gives غَيْر (other, different) and غَيَّرَ (to change), so the underlying sense is reacting to an intrusion of the 'other' into what is one's own. This is a native Arabic root, not a borrowing, so no Indo-European ancestry applies here.
