Etymology
Qasida comes from the Arabic root q-ص-d (qaṣada), meaning to intend, aim, or head toward something with purpose. The noun qaṣīda originally denoted a poem composed with deliberate craft and intent, as opposed to loose or spontaneous verse. Over time it became the standard term for the classical multi-line ode with a single meter and rhyme, most famously the pre-Islamic odes later called the Mu'allaqat. The root is Semitic, not Indo-European, so it has no PIE ancestor.
