Etymology
Άστον is a fusion of two spoken words: άσε, the imperative of αφήνω (to let, to leave), and τον, the weak accusative pronoun for him. In fast speech, άσε τον collapses into άστον, the same way English speakers slur leave him into 'leave 'im. Αφήνω itself descends from Ancient Greek ἀφίημι, meaning to let go or release, while τον continues the old accusative form of the demonstrative and article system.
