Etymology
καθένας is a univerbated compound of κάθε ('each, every') and ένας ('one'), literally 'each one'. The element ένας descends from Ancient Greek εἷς / μία / ἕν 'one', while κάθε reflects the Ancient Greek preposition κατά used in a distributive sense. It crystallized as an indefinite pronoun in Medieval and Modern Greek.
