Etymology
From Ancient Greek διάθεσις, a verbal noun of διατίθημι 'to arrange, dispose, set in order', formed from δια- 'through, apart' plus τίθημι 'to put, place'. The literal idea of 'an arranging, a setting in order' developed into 'disposition, condition, state of mind', which in Modern Greek is most commonly 'mood'. The same root yields the formal senses of 'disposal' and 'distribution'.
